When a media text has been thought of and made, the producers make it their responsibility to ensure that it reaches the audience it’s intended for. All media text that’s been created has some sort of marketing and advertising campaign them. Some of these attachments might include
posters
print, radio, TV and internet advertisements
Trailers
Promotional interviews (e.g. stars appearing on chat shows, information leaked to Internet bloggers)
Tie-in campaigns (e.g. a blockbuster movie using McDonalds kiddies meals)
Merchandising (t-shirts, key rings etc)
The main purpose of marketing campaigns is to create awareness of the media text that has been created. Once the awareness has been created, it then helps the audience with their decision on if to follow/be a part of the text or not.
For my production I will be creating a poster and a radio advert to create a buzz and awareness for anyone that wants to see the final product, especially my target audience.
Counting an Audience
Different types of media texts measure their audiences in different ways. This is to know the estimate amount of people viewing/purchasing the text and to also know the amount that is being sold or already sold. Here are some examples of how some different media platforms count their audiences:
Print: Magazines and newspapers measure their circulation by numbers of copies that have been sold
Radio/TV: they Measure the number of viewers and listeners for a TV/Radio programme or whole station's output.
Internet/New media: Internet sites measure the hit rate of a page or site. There Is a Code inserted into the site that collects information on the number of visitors that visit the site. This information is used to count the amount of views the site is getting. An example of this would be on Youtube at the bottom of the video there is a number which measure the amount of people that have viewed that video.
For my production I will be counting my audience by posting my completed video on Youtube for my audience and at the end of every month I will check to see how many views my video has.
